Guidelines for Field Study Students
Anchored on experiential learning, contextual teaching and learning (CTL) approach, and reflective learning, this FIELD STUDY 3 GUIDEBOOK is your guide in performing the various learning episodes in FS 3 – Technology in the Learning Environment.
This includes an introduction which presents an overview of the course as well as the matrix of learning episodes which show the targeted NCBTS domains and strands, and the FS 3 coursework. This will help you in visualizing the expectations set for you.
This guidebook includes learning episodes which can be realistically completed in 17 hours. Specifically, this guidebook includes four learning episodes; namely:
1) The Learning Resource Center
2) Instructional Aids Bank
3) ICT-enriched Instructional Materials
4) Reflection on the Technology in the Learning Environment
Each of the Learning Episodes 1 to 3 is designed in a way that encourages minimum guidance of the FS instructor, if not independence in learning. Part 1 states the objective/s of the learning episode. Part 2 deals on the steps to be followed to complete the learning tasks. Part 3 is composed of the different learning tasks to be performed. Matrices, boxes and notes are provided in order to ensure ease in completing the tasks. Lastly, Part 4 requires the students to write impressions or over-all remarks about the learning episode.
Learning Episode 4 specifically requires you to write a reflection paper. This learning episode includes the following: 1) the summary of the FS experiences which consists of salient observations, emerging issues and insights gained; 2) the snapshots of the FS experiences which will encourage creativity in presenting photo documentation and captions; and 3) a narrative reflection of the entire FS 3 experience. You are given flexibility in organizing your narrative reflection; however you may consider the guide questions which may be given by your FS instructor.
This also includes a glossary, sample syllabus, guide questions for the reflection paper and suggested rubrics for the learning episodes, the reflection paper, and the portfolio for the course. The glossary will clarify some terms used in the guidebook and in the learning episodes. The syllabus will give you the details of the course together with the requirements. The guide questions will help you to make your reflection paper more organized and focused while the rubrics will give you information on how your work will be evaluated.
An added feature of this guidebook is the inclusion of a blank page after each learning episode to allow you to include other documents or evidence of experiential learning. Also, at the end of the guidebook are few pages which can serve as your field notes, thus there is no need to buy a separate notebook. Therefore, you may use this guidebook as your workbook-portfolio, and thus you have an opportunity to practice your cursive writing and to be organized without spending much. You may also dress up the cover of this guidebook to make it unique and creative.
